Taika Waititi Slated to Direct New Thor Installment

Taika Waititi has signed on to direct the fourth installment in Marvel Studios’ Thor franchise, The Hollywood Reporter broke Tuesday afternoon. The film will be the New Zealander’s second time in the director’s chair at Marvel, the first being 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok which marked a major tonal shift for the franchise and pushed it towards a new direction.
Chris Hemsworth is expected to return to his role as the titular hero. It is unknown at this time which other cast members will be reprising their roles. The news comes on the heels of the announcement that Warner Brother’s Akira, which Waititi was slated to direct, has been put on hold indefinitely.
The release date and title of the film has not yet been announced.
